About Fasting

Fasting is the biblical practice of abstaining from food for a certain amount of time in order to seek the Lord. In scripture, many individuals fasted as well as the Lord calling the whole nation of Israel to fast. Jesus himself fasted and taught us to fast. Fasting was also practiced by the church in Acts.
The purpose of a fast has a deeper meaning than simply skipping a few meals. A true fast is temporarily forsaking a natural need to intensify going after our spiritual need: the manifest presence of God. We are not fasting to earn God's love or to get a specific prayer request answered. We are fasting to experience more of God's presence while being open to the transformation his presence brings.
-
We are encouraging a water-only fast (no food and no other drinks besides water).
-
We are asking everyone who is able* to fast at least one day per week through the month of January.
Let your physical hunger provoke a spiritual hunger as the Lord dwells with us in greater measure. Fasting is part of the pilgrimage to the manifest presence of God, for we will seek the Lord until he comes!

*Important note:
If you can't do a water-only fast for medical reasons, please do not. Please choose something else to fast (certain types of food, entertainment, sports, politics, tv, movies, social media, YouTube, etc).
